A Chinese woman has become the first human to die from a new strain of bird flu, which the WHO has named H3N8.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that this disease is rare in China, but it seems that it has not spread among people.

The woman who died of this disease was 56 years old from Guangdong province in southern China. She was the third person to be diagnosed with the H3N8 virus. This was stated in a statement issued by the WHO.
The cases are all confined to China, two cases have already been reported. The Guangdong Center for Disease Control and Prevention did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
China is famous for bird borne diseases. Reports say that the woman who died of the disease visited a bird market which is a wet market.
The H3N8 virus is common in birds, and is not a disease that causes symptoms. Birds can also infect other animals.
